Dumfries and Galloway Council finally visits site of tree blocking Moniaive woman's garden

The council has visited the site of a fallen tree which has blocked a Moniaive woman from using her garden gate.

It landed against the gate of Su Palmer-Jones’ home in November preventing her from accessing the park on her daily walks and despite contacting the local authority she didn’t receive a response.

After she got in touch with The Standard the council sent staff to look at the tree this week.

A council spokesperson said: “We’re aware of the issue.

“Staff from Community Assets are dealing with the householder and are scheduled to visit the site.”

The tree was blown down in November during Storm Arwen with a neighbour telling the 77-year-old about it the following day.

The retiree contacted the local authority on November 27 but hadn’t received a response.

Following the update she said: “I’ll just have to wait and see.

“Some men did come around to look at it this week. When I asked when it was going to be fixed they said they didn’t know when so I’m not too hopeful to be honest.

“But we shall see.”
