Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue Centre is sounding a right royal appeal to dog-lovers across the region.
With the knowledge that the Queen has a fondness for dogs – especially her Corgies – the animal charity at Glencaple near Dumfries is hoping her Platinum Jubilee this year will help boost their fundraising activities.
They need cash to help feed and care for the dogs that are brought to the centre as strays, unwanted or abandoned before the staff and volunteers find them a new life in a forever home in the region.
And they are hoping that people might want to help the centre and celebrate the Queen’s 70 years on the throne at the same time by turning it into a fundraiser for them.
This could be during the special four-day Jubilee festivities beginning on June 2 or any time this year – and may be anything from a simple collection to a full blown crowd-pulling money spinner.
They are also keen for anyone who does hold a Platinum Jubilee fundraiser for them to send them pictures they can use on their social media platforms to raise awareness of the centre.
And to get into the spirit they have dressed up four dogs which are currently in the centre and looking for homes – and they certainly look the part.
A spokeswoman for the centre said: “As the Queen is a well-known animal lover we thought it was a great opportunity to celebrate and wondered if anyone holding a garden party/coffee morning etc to commemorate the Jubilee might also consider making it a charity event and holding it to raise funds for our dogs?
“We have some printable packs available along with collection tins for anyone holding an event – just call us at 01387 770210.”
