Dumbarton FC looking to the future as club to hold open trials for under-18s

Dumbarton FC have launched two new youth teams, providing a pathway to first-team football at Castle Road.

The newly formed Sons under-17s will play in the Paisley, Johnstone and District Youth Football League in the new season.

To complement the U17s the club are also proposing to field an under-18s side.

Andy Gordon of C&G Systems, the club sponsor closely involved with this development, said: “The concept has been four years in the making, and started when C&G Systems began sponsoring DFC and supporting Dumbarton United and Renton Craigandro youth teams in 2018.

“The introduction of the under-17s and the trials being held for the under-18s will allow us to have a real youth structure who can hopefully progress to the U20 Development League.

“While we can’t guarantee that this will unearth a legion of youngsters who will all get to the first team, what this initiative allows is for the club to forge strong ties with the local community, and hopefully be able to support the development of local talent with a real chance of a pathway to the first team.

“We hope this can only go from strength to strength and allow us to build a sustainable structure for years to come.”

Open trials for the under-18 squad will be held on Sunday (May 22) at 1pm at Tontine Park, Renton and the club are looking to attract the best emerging young talent in the local area.

Anyone interested in attending the trial day, please email the club at davidlavery1981@icloud.com or contact the coaches direct via 07528 384117.
