A local church volunteer is pleading with people to attend a coffee morning this weekend, so she can continue to help vulnerable people through the soup kitchen this winter - as she details how doing so has helped her cope with her daughter’s death.
Ghislaine Kennedy of St Augustine’s Church, in Dumbarton High Street, has organised the event on Saturday, September 24, to raise £12,000 to put towards a new boiler and heating system for the church.
The Lennox Herald previously reported how Ghislaine warned vulnerable people will miss out on vital free meals this year unless they can raise the cash.
However, Ghislaine has detailed how being able to help others has kept her sane through dealing with the death of her daughter, she said: “My daughter was an addict, and she was found dead in her flat in Falkirk three months ago.
“Being able to run the soup kitchen every Friday has gotten me through this time.
“It helps me stay sane because I cannot do anything to help my daughter now, but I can help other people.
“This is not just about boilers, we need to do something to help people who are struggling.”
The coffee morning is being run by the All Sorts Choir and will be held between 10am and 1.30pm with tickets at £3.
