Portrait of Duke of Wellington sells for record £9.6m at London auction

Thomas Lawrence Napoleon the Duke of Wellington Christie the Battle of Waterloo

A historic portrait of the Duke of Wellington has fetched a record-breaking sum at auction in London, selling for more than £9.6 million.

The artwork, depicting Arthur Wellesley, the 1st Duke of Wellington, was painted by Thomas Lawrence following Napoleon's defeat at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.
