The Duchess of Edinburgh has broken her silence as she expressed her sadness after the death of the OAP struck down by her royal motorcade died.
Helen Holland, 81, fought for her life for almost two weeks in hospital after she was run down by the Met Police motorcycle that was escorting Sophie in West London on May 10, the Express reports.
A statement released on behalf of the Duchess on Wednesday read: "The Duchess of Edinburgh is deeply saddened to hear that Helen Holland has passed away.
"Her Royal Highness's deepest condolences and sympathies go to all of Ms Holland's family."
Helen was tragically knocked down on West Cromwell Road and Warwick Road in Earl's Court on the afternoon of May 10. The 81-year-old was said to have been "thrown 40 feet across the road".
The BBC reports that Ms Holland's heartbroken son, Martin said his mother died after sustaining "multiple broken bones and massive internal injuries".
He added that she had battled "for her life for nearly two weeks... but irreversible damage to her brain finally ended the battle today".
Martin also claims that Helen was using the "safe route of a pedestrian crossing" when she was struck by the motorcycle.
The IPOC are now investigating the incident and revealed on May 19 that they are appealing for witnesses and have taken CCTV from nearby buildings to examine.
The IOPC regional director Amanda Rowe said on May 19: "Our thoughts are with the woman, who has sustained life-threatening injuries, and her family.
"We have been in touch with them to explain our role and will keep them regularly updated as the investigation progresses."
A previous statement from Buckingham Palace regarding the incident said: "The Duchess's heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the injured lady and her family.
"She is grateful for the swift response by the emergency services and will keep abreast of developments."
On the day of the incident, Met Police confirmed that at around 3:21pm on Wednesday May 10 a police motorcycle collided with an elderly pedestrian at the junction of Cromwell Road and Warwick Road, SW5, during escort duties.
Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance rushed out to the scene and Ms Holland was taken to hospital.
No other injuries from the incident were reported.
