The Duchess of Cambridge has remained in Windsor for her children's first day at school while her husband joins other senior Royals in Balmoral amid concerns for the Queen's health.
Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, joined the Duke of York and the Count and Countess of Wessex to fly to Aberdeen after Buckingham Palace took the rare step to announce the Queen has been placed under medical supervision after doctors voiced concern for Her Majesty's health.
But Catherine stayed at home because today is the first day of school for Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. In a statement, Kensington Palace said: "The Duchess of Cambridge has remained in Windsor as Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are on their first full day at their new school."
The three Cambridge children, George, aged nine, Charlotte, seven and Louis, four, have enrolled in the prestigious Lambrook school in Berkshire after the family recently moved out of London to Windsor. On Wednesday morning, in marked contrast to what was to happen the next day, upbeat pictures of the Cambridges taking their children to school for a taster day were released.
The news of the Queen's health follows months of growing concern about the 96-year-old over a period where she has pulled out of several official and private engagements.
The initial statement read: "Following further evaluation this morning, The Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."
The 96-year-old monarch celebrated her Platinum Jubilee this year but there have been longstanding concerns over her health and mobility. After her husband Prince Philip died on April 9 2021, her son Prince Charles started to take on more of her duties.
It comes only days after the Queen met with Liz Truss to officially appoint her as the new Prime Minister. The monarch had been due to hold a Privy Council meeting virtually yesterday but it was postponed.
