Ireland is set to enjoy unusually warm weather in the coming weeks as a weather model most seen in the summer months is on its way here.
According to Met Eireann forecasters, a "plunge" of warmer air will move in from the south of Ireland towards the end of October, bringing with it temperatures often seen in July or August. They said: "The Ecmwf and Gfs models showing a plunge of warmer air moving up from the south to end October and to start November.
"These sort of charts are something you would expect to see in July or August. Good news is it means it keeps the weather on the milder," they added.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann's long range forecast suggests that things will remain predominantly mild but wet in the month of November. It forecast that this week will see low pressure dominate our weather, steering up warm, unstable air, which will likely lead to above average temperatures and rainfall totals, with the rainfall heavy at times.
From Monday, October 31 to Sunday, November 6, low pressure looks to not be as influential over our weather. Temperatures and rainfall totals will still likely be above average for the time of year, though the signal is not quite as strong.
Looking ahead to Monday, November 7, to Sunday, November 13, low pressure will once again take hold of our weather. Similar conditions to this week are forecast for the beginning of November, with above average rainfall totals and warmer than average conditions.
There is uncertainty for Monday, November 14, to Sunday, November 20, though there is some signal for high pressure to be the dominant feature. This then would lead to about average temperatures and rainfall totals for the time of year.
Meanwhile, today will see any residual mist, fog and low cloud clear during the morning, leaving sunny spells and scattered showers. Some will turn heavy at times in the north and west.
Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees in moderate west to southwest winds. Showers will become mostly confined to Atlantic coastal counties overnight, with the best of the clear spells will be in the east.
Cloud will build in from the west towards morning. Lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in light to moderate southerly breezes.
Becoming mostly cloudy tomorrow morning with scattered showers extending from the south and turning heavy at times, although there will be some hazy sunny spells at times. Persistent and, at times, heavy rain will spread from the south later in the afternoon and through the evening.
Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds developing, further increasing strong at times with the arrival of the rain.
