Another record setting month of weather could be ahead for Ireland as bookmakers say odds have been slashed on the chance of record temperatures and rainfall.
With Met Eireann's monthly forecast predicting low pressure but a possibility of higher than average temperatures throughout the month of September, there could be good signs ahead. It seems that punters are thinking the same even though Electric Picnic this weekend is expected to be a washout.
Ladbrokes has slashed odds from 5/1 to evens that this coming September will be the hottest in recorded history. At the same time they've also cut odds that we'll have the wettest September on record to 3/1.

While we will have to wait and see, Met Eireann warns that we certainly have a mixed bag of conditions ahead. Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: "Despite the predictions of miserable conditions for this weekend, it seems we are still dreaming of sunnier days ahead, and after a recent surge in betting, we have been forced to slash the odds on September being the hottest on record. Here’s to hoping the punters are right!"
Here's what's predicted for September by Met Eireann:
Friday September 2 to Thursday September 8
Very unsettled across Ireland as low pressure settles in. Rainfall is expected to be above average in a lot of areas, while temperatures will also be the same.
Friday September 9 to Thursday September 15
Low pressure will continue into this week but it won't be as bad as the last. Some parts of the country will be a little wetter than others, particularly in the east. Temperatures could be above average once again.
Friday September 16 to Thursday September 22
More of the low pressure will continue in Ireland. Rainfall is predicted to be slightly higher than normal as is the temperature.
Friday September 23 to Thursday September 29
A lot of uncertainty at the moment but signs that rainfall and temperatures will be around average for the time of year. Some areas could have lower rainfall than normal.
