Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecasts warm temperatures for Valentine's Day

Met Eireann has forecast a generally cloudy morning but temperatures could reach between 12 and 15 degrees.

The national forecaster also said there is a chance of "the odd spot of light rain or drizzle" early on but the afternoon will be dry and we can expect to see some sunshine then. There will also be some moderate to fresh southerly winds.

The evening on Valentine's Day will be mostly cloudy but will have a dry start. However, Met Eireann predicts rain will spread from the west later in the night. Meanwhile, the lowest temperatures will reach between 4 to 7 degrees in moderate southwest winds.

On Wednesday morning, rain will clear quickly into the Irish Sea to leave it bright and fresh for a time with sunny spells and a few showers. This won't last for long however, and a further spell of rain will move in by evening. Temperatures temperatures will reach up to 9 and 11 degrees in moderate to fresh southwest winds.

While there is no further forecast for Dublin, Met Eireann's national outlook says the rest of the week is expected to be "rather unsettled for a time, but turning drier and calmer later in the weekend". Here's what else they have said:

Wednesday night

Outbreaks of rain, heavy in places, will be spotted across much of the country on Wednesday night. The sky will clear for most of the country by Thursday morning and the lowest temperatures will be 3 to 8 degrees, the coldest being later in the night across the northern half of the country.

Thursday

Thursday morning will be generally dry but with "a fair amount of cloud". Rain will develop in the west and northwest during the afternoon, spreading to most of the country by evening. Temperatures will reach up to 12 degrees, although they might be milder in the south.

Light southwest winds will strengthen later in the day with gales developing in Atlantic sea areas. The evening will be mild and windy with scattered outbreaks of rain or drizzle. Temperatures will be as low as 8 degrees in strong and gusty west to southwest winds along with gales on Atlantic coasts.

Friday

"Winds will abate on Friday morning. It will be a rather cloudy day with patchy rain in the south extending across much of the country during the afternoon.

"Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in fresh and gusty southwest winds. There will be scattered outbreaks of rain overnight with lowest temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees in a moderate to fresh west or southwest breeze.

Weekend

"There is some uncertainty in the forecast for the weekend, but current indications suggest that Saturday will be rather cloudy with patchy rain or drizzle. High pressure is then expected to build over Ireland on Sunday bringing lots of dry weather with some sunshine too."
