Dublin weather: Met Eireann forecasts mild temperatures before cold snap makes brief return

Good morning, folks! The cold snap has come to an end as Dublin is set to enjoy double-digit temperatures for a few days.

While the first half of the week will see persistent rain, the second half seems to be more settled. There will be another short period of cold weather with subzero temperatures towards the end of the week but it won't last for long.

Today will be rather dull and overcast to start with patchy outbreaks of light rain and drizzle. Fog will also linger in some parts through the morning. The highest daytime temperatures will be around 10 to 12 degrees.

Tonight will be cloudy and mostly dry with just a chance of a few stray patches of light rain or drizzle. Temperatures will be around 6 to 8 degrees.

Tomorrow will be another fairly cloudy day with outbreaks of light rain and drizzle but there will be a few localised bright spells. Daytime temperatures will be around 10 or 11 degrees.

There is no further forecast for Dublin but here's what the national outlook says:

Tuesday night

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Remaining mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain or drizzle, they will become persistent later in the night in the north and west. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds, veering northwesterly and freshening in the north and west towards morning.

Wednesday

"Rain in the north and west will gradually track southeastwards and break up through the morning with some sunny spells and showers following for the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees, in mostly moderate northwesterly winds.

Wednesday night

"Dry and mostly clear, but turning cooler with lowest temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees in light to moderate northerly breezes.

Thursday

"Mostly sunny, but dry in the morning with some cloud bubbling up during the afternoon. Feeling a little cooler with highest temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees, in light northerly breezes.

Thursday night

"Mostly dry and clear, but quite cold with lowest temperatures of -2 to +2 degrees leading to some frost in places as winds fall light and variable. Cloud will increase towards morning.

Friday

"Mostly dry with good sunny spells in the south and east, while cloud will increase from the northwest through the day. Outbreaks of rain will follow into the northwest during the evening. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees, in light westerly breezes."
