Tripadvisor has named Kilmainham Gaol as the world’s best museum.
The Dublin landmark, which is located in the heart of Dublin 8, was also named the 13th best attraction in the world. The historic jail beat-out the likes of the Acropolis in Greece (14th), the Taj Mahal in India (23rd) and Petra in Jordan (24th).
Kilmainham Gaol holds great significance given it was the location of the executions of the 1916 Easter Rising leaders, as well as being one of the largest unoccupied prisons in Europe.
