Dublin teenager David Okagbue seals first senior loan to Chester from Stoke City

Republic of Ireland under-19 international David Okagbue will get his first taste of senior football as he joins Chester on loan.

The Dubliner will link up with the National League North side from parent club Stoke City on an initial one-month loan.

Centre-half Okagbue joined the Potters from Bohemians in the summer of 2020 and has progressed steadily from the under-18s to the under-23 Premier League 2.

The 17-year-old, who played schoolboy football with St Kevin's Boys before joining Bohs, has featured regularly for the 23s, who sit sixth in Division 2.

He had also been praised by manager Michael O'Neill and has trained regularly with the senior squad, so a taste of men's football will be the next step in his development.

Chester, who are managed by former Newcastle United and Everton defender Steve Watson, currently sit 16th in the sixth tier of English football.

“Teenage defender David Okagbue has today joined Chester on a work experience loan,” read a statement released by Stoke.

“The 17-year-old, who is a Republic of Ireland Under-19 international, will spend the next month with the National League North side.

“All at the Club wish David every success during his time with Chester.”
