Dublin teen stars alongside Sharon Horgan in powerful BBC drama

A Dublin teenager will star in a moving drama series about muscular dystrophy this week.

'Best Interests' will air tonight on BBC One. The four part series focuses on teenage Marnie, played movingly by Niamh Moriarty, who lives with muscular dystrophy.

The young actress has cerebral palsy and has spoken openly about the sensitive portrayal of disability in television. She told the Irish Times that she felt "seen and understood" after reading the script for the upcoming series.

Niamh's onscreen parents are played by Sharon Horgan and Michael Sheen. The story centres around the dilemma of Marnie's life limiting condition and her family's legal fight to keep her alive.

Niamh's previous acting credits include the highly anticipated Toy Show the Musical. Her portrayal of Marnie will show the realities of life with muscular dystrophy, which causes muscle wasting and pain amongst sufferers.

The show has a strong Irish casting, with 'Conversations with Friends' star Alison Oliver taking on the role of Marnie's sister. The first episode of 'Best Interests' airs tonight on BBC One at 9pm.
