A Dublin restaurant is set become the first takeaway in the country to introduce completely reusable packaging from next week.
Camile Thai on Pearse Street won the Best Sustainability award at the 2023 Just Eat Takeaway Awards this week. And From next Monday 13 March, Camile Thai Kitchen's customers will have the option to choose to reuse when they order their favourite signature dish, with no deposit required.
Customers then have 14 days to return the packaging to the restaurant, where it will be reused. Daniel Greene, Managing Director of Camile Thai Kitchen said: "We are proud to be the first takeaway in Ireland to offer our customers the opportunity to choose to reuse their packaging with Vytal’s innovative technology.

"As a business, Camile is committed to supporting the development of sustainable communities by discovering new solutions to industry issues that are contributing to climate change."
Mr Greene hopes that the pilot will help their customers to cut down on their packaging waste, and that it will also encourage other takeaways in Dublin to follow suit.
It is expected that Camile Thai’s collaboration with Vytal will see the environmental impact of takeaways reduce, with 10 uses of Vytal packaging saving up to 30kg of CO2. The Vytal reuse system is Ireland’s first digital reusable platform for takeaway food and beverage packaging, allowing consumers to sign up and ‘borrow’ individually assigned QR coded packaging.
Co-Founder of Vytal Ireland and fellow restaurateur, Michelle Moloughney said: “Camile’s investment in Vytal’s reusable system is extremely encouraging as we work towards a zero disposable packaging future.
"The simple and efficient return process that will be made available to guests via this Pearse Street pilot, will hopefully encourage more customers to try this service and see for themselves how easy it is to choose to reuse," she added.
Vytal containers are now available in Camile Thai Pearse Street and can be accessed via the Vytal Ireland app. For further information visit www.camile.ie.
