Dublin supermarkets are struggling to maintain fruit and vegetable stock due an unusual weather event abroad.
Below freezing temperatures in Spain have dampened fruit and vegetable trade across Europe. Irish retailers such as Supervalu, Tesco and Lidl confirmed they were experiencing shortages last night. Dublin Live visited several local supermarkets this morning to find out how they were coping with depleting stock.
The manager of Tesco in Crumlin Village said that items such as blueberries, raspberries and strawberries are in short supply for their customers. She told Dublin Live: "There's only a certain amount of vegetables affected, it's more so fruit. We're trying to fill out the shelves with what we do have but we've been lacking in items over the past few days."

Tesco Express in Crumlin has several signs on display in its fruit and veg aisle acknowledging the recent shortage. The manager, who did not wish to be named, says that certain items such as grapes remain relatively unaffected by the change.
Although the fruit and vegetable aisle looks fairly empty, this is not fully down to supply issues. The store will receive a delivery on Wednesday, which will help fill out the area.
While some stores are visibly low on certain items, other stores appear to be coping well with the additional strain. A Centra manager confirmed that although their store had not experienced a decline in stock, they had heard of other shops experiencing difficulties with tomato deliveries.
Items such as avocados and pomegranates were in decline in a local Supervalu. However, a Dunnes Stores fruit and vegetable section remained well stocked despite the shortages experienced by other Irish retailers.
