Dublin Port Tunnel fire: Specialist firefighters battled HGV blaze

Specialist firefighters were called in to battle a blaze in the Dublin Port Tunnel yesterday afternoon (21 December). The M50 was closed in both directions while Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene.

It came after reports of an HGV fire in the south bore of the Dublin Tunnel. Fire crews from numerous Dublin Fire Brigade stations - including crews specifically trained in tunnel firefighting - dealt with the blaze.

The Brigade's 'Tunnel Response Vehicle' was also caled into service. The M50 was fully reopened a short time later.

In a post about the fire shared late last night, Dublin Fire Brigade confirmed their attendance by tweeting: "Firefighters trained in tunnel firefighting responded from multiple stations and our "Tunnel Response Vehicle" attended the incident. Both bores were temporarily closed during the incident."
