An incredible 25 trucks will depart from Dublin Port today, carrying 500 tonnes of aid for Ukraine.
"Aid for Ireland" has organised what will be the largest aid convoy to ever leave the country.
Trucks have been provided for the cause by transport companies from Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Irish Ferries are donating ships to get the trucks transported to continental Europe so they can begin their journey.
Warehouse space and staff have been provided to the cause free of charge and many of the drivers are making the journey as unpaid volunteers.
The transport companies and drivers involved want to "send an advance message to Ukrainian families that help is on the way from Ireland".
They also want to assure the children from all over Ireland who donated to school and community collections that their items are "in safe hands and will be delivered directly to where they are most needed".
Boojum are among those sending aid on the convoy, providing 600 survival kits with flash lamps and warm clothing.
Flahavans have donated 10,000 Kg of porridge and Hibernian Healthcare have given 6 pallets of first aid and medical supplies.
The convoy is also carrying all donations collected via school and community appeals.
The companies involved in the convoy are:
- Caulfields Transport
- Hendricks European
- Virginia International Logistics
- DSV
- JMC Vantrans
- McCulla Transport
- Derry Transport
- Blair European Transport.
