The groups training officer Tom Cahill told Dublin Live that people of all interests are welcome as there is a space for everyone.

"So for instance, if you have a drivers licence, if you're an account or a mechanic, feel free to come along no matter what you're interested in and bring your friends as well," he said.

"If nothing else it's a social event. Come along and see what the story is, it will be fun I guarantee."

The Order of Malta fundraising officer Tony Byrne discussed the organisation's work, from welcoming Ukrainian refugees from Dublin Airport to helping elderly members of the community.

He told Dublin Live: "I've been a member for the past 30 odd years. We have a strong unit but it lacks members at the moment.

"We've just come through a pandemic and we're now in a situation where at the airport we've set up a meet and greet with the Red Cross and St John's Ambulance where we meet the Ukrainians coming in.

"With a smile on the face we welcome them and bring them over to the welcome centre where they get all of their details. We do that two nights per week.

"We have first aid, community events and we work with the elderly. It doesn't matter how small it is, if you have an input. It's community strength that keeps units going.

"You as a member of the community can become involved with us. Give us a hand, it doesn't matter if you do an hour or week or want to make a full time job out of it. Come along and have a chat with us and we can fit you in somewhere along the line."
