Dublin one of the best cities in Europe for bargain hunters according to new study

Dublin has been ranked the fourth best city for bargain hunting in Europe, according to a study published by comparison website Confused.com.

The study looked at deals on offer across Europe for items such as vintage furniture, homeware and antique jewellery. The research suggested that Dublin provides bargain lovers with a wide variety of outlets, antique stores and markets.

Jessica Willock, home insurance expert at Confused.com, said: “When searching for bargains in Europe’s best spots, there is the potential to find high-value items for a fraction of the cost. Despite their discounted price, it’s important to consider the true value of any purchases made in markets, antique stores or outlets."

Dublin beat London on the rankings, with the UK capital only coming in at 8th place on the list. The research suggested that Dublin had more than a quarter of antique shops available per capita than London, with 1.13 shops per 100,000 people. The quality of Dublin’s factory outlets also scored 12 per cent higher than the UK capital’s.

Dublin was narrowly beaten for the top spot by entries such as Copenhagen, Riga and Amsterdam. Copenhagen topped the list for best value, receiving a bargain index score of 8.43 out of 10. Denmark’s capital city is the home of the highest rated food and clothing markets out of all competitors on the list.

Riga, the Latvian capital which came second in terms of value for money, also has a high amount of discounted clothing stores on offer compared to other entries.

The research coincides with the news that more Irish people are cutting back on optional spending as a result of the cost of living crisis. The financial app Revolut previously stated that customers were cutting back on clothing and leisure costs in order to prioritise essential costs.
