A Dublin hairdresser has revealed how many times you should wash your hair a week.

While many of us probably wash our hair every second day, or even once a day, this is a big mistake according to a Skerries hairdresser.

How many times would you suggest washing your hair a week?

I’d suggest washing your hair maybe twice a week. Your hair's natural oils are there to nourish the hair and washing it everyday will strip those away.

How often do you need a haircut and why?

It’s recommended to get a haircut every 6 weeks as your hair grows half an inch each month. This keeps it fresh

Is it better to get your hair dyed in a salon or use a bottle dye?

Absolutely in a salon! Box colour is so stubborn and more times than not box colours are darker and never come out the way you want

Disadvantages of using curlers/straighteners everyday?

Using hot tools every day can be extremely damaging especially if the hair has been chemically treated. If you do use them regularly, invest in a good heat protector and don’t keep going over the same pieces.

Is it better to dry hair with a dryer or naturally?

Obviously the less heat on the hair the better but using a dryer will keep the hair smooth and styled but as I said if you’re only washing your hair twice a week it’s absolutely fine

Can you eat anything that will make your hair healthier?

Hair vitamins are always good to take. Most multivitamins look after everything but may not include the hair and nails so it’s always good to add in a vitamin for those too

How to stop losing hair?

Unfortunately hair loss happens! Looking after your scalp helps a lot and using products for hair loss are great! I’ve used the Revlon Density Programme on clients and even my own nails have grown and strengthened so investing in good products is always worth it.
