Dublin Fire Brigade pays tribute to station officer after 33 years of service

Tributes have been paid to a well respected firefighter as he retires after three decades.

Dublin Fire Brigade said farewell to Station Officer Shane Somers yesterday after a 33 year career with the fire service. Shane first joined Dun Laoghaire Fire Brigade in 1990, before later moving to C Watch.

Members of Shane's family and his colleagues joined him in a celebration at Donnybrook Fire Station. Photos show the well established station officer surrounded by staff in front of a fire truck.

Dublin Fire Brigade wrote on social media: "After 33 years service we have said goodbye to Station Officer Shane Somers. Colleagues joined Shane and family in Donnybrook to wish him the best as he moves on to the next chapter."

Several people praised Shane underneath the post and echoed the sentiments made by his fellow colleagues.

One person wrote: "Thank you for your service. Hero."

An Instagram user also commented: "Congrats Shane. Many happy years in retirement."
