Dublin Fire Brigade have led tributes to "hugely respected" firefighter and great friend Shane McBride.
The dad-of-two died suddenly on 26 September and will be missed by his loving family and by firefighters across the country. Shane was originally from Claddagh in Galway but moved to Drogheda where he was Louth Fire Brigade's Station Officer.
Dublin Fire Brigade said that Shane's death has left the entire firefighting community heartbroken. They tweeted: "It is with great sadness that we learned of the sudden passing of Louth Fire Brigade's Station Officer Shane McBride stationed at Drogheda Fire Station. Our thoughts are with his family, colleagues and friends at this difficult time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam."

Gardaí in Louth said that Shane became a friend to so many of his colleagues. They wrote: "All of us at Drogheda Garda Station are saddened to hear of the passing on Monday last of Station Officer Shane McBride of Drogheda Fire Station. Shane was well known and hugely respected by all of us who attended many incidents alongside himself and his colleagues during his years as a fire fighter with Drogheda Fire Station.
"His professionalism and cooperation were a testament to himself and The Fire Service when assisting us in many investigations. Shane’s personality and character meant that many of us who had met him in a professional capacity went onto to befriend him personally on the many occasions in which we met off duty.
"To Shane’s wife, Samantha and his daughters Shayleen and Erin, and all of his extended family as well as his friends and colleagues throughout The Fire Service, especially those in Drogheda Fire Station, we extend our deepest sympathies. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis."
Firefighters in Ardee said that Shane had a huge influence on all of their force and was available to give advice or for a friendly chat. They wrote: "We are hugely saddened with the news today of the sudden passing of our friend and colleague in Drogheda Fire Station, Station Officer Shane McBride.
"Most of the crew here would have attended courses with Shane as our instructor. One of the most knowledgable Station Officers in the country, Shane has been a huge influence on every one of us here in Ardee station. His expertise in every aspect of firefighting was second to none.
"A great character, a great one to ask for advice, and a great officer to have with you on the fire-ground, he will be greatly missed by us all.
"We would like to send our sincere condolences to his wife Samantha and to his family and friends, and also to our colleagues on Blue Watch in Drogheda Fire Station and throughout Louth County Fire & Rescue Service. Go dtuga sé suaimhneas dó."
He is reposing at Townley’s Funeral Home, Crosslanes, Drogheda on Thursday and Friday evening from 5 o’clock until 7 o’clock. Shane's funeral mass will take on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock in Holy Family Church, Ballsgrove before his cremation.
