"Had the privilege of honouring him in the Redemptorist Church in Limerick on his 58th anniversary of priesthood in 2019. He was delighted to hear I had just taken up an appointment as PP to Assumption Parish."

Several well-wishers took to the comments to pay their tributes to Fr Ryan with one person saying: "He was a beautiful soul. A man ahead of his time in regards to liturgical ceremonies." Another person said: "Rest in Peace Fr. Seamus.

"What a wonderful caring and understanding Priest. Had many a chat with him whilst he was in St. Matthews Parish, Ballyfermot. Condolences to his beloved family."

Fr Ryan will be laid to rest on Tuesday, February 14, at St Michael's Church in Cappamore. A notice on RIP.ie reads: "Fr Seamus Ryan, Cappamore, Co Limerick and formerly of St. Patrick’s College, Thurles and Parish Priest of St. Matthew's Ballyfermot, Dublin, February 11th 2023.
