Dublin City Council are considering hiking parking fees for cars that have higher emissions.
A DCC review is investigating the feasibility of implementing "differential parking charges" for different vehicle types. The review is also looking at hiking parking fees around the city.
Speaking to RTE's Morning Ireland, Dublin City Council's Head of Technical Services Brendan O'Brien said the move is part of the Council's Climate Action Plan. He said: "As part of our Climate Action Plan, one of our aims is to investigate the feasibility of starting to move towards differential parking charges.

"If you're driving something like an electric vehicle or a low-emissions model, can we actually have a different parking charge rate for you than if you're driving a more standard vehicle or indeed the larger, more gas guzzling ones.
Mr O'Brien said they plan to bring a report on the issue to the Council's Special Policy Unit in 2023. He said that those paying using the meter on the street would be charged a standard rate, but they are looking at making it possible for vehicles with lower emissions to avail of the lower rate by paying with an app.
"We are not proposing to provide free parking for electric vehicles," Mr O'Brien said. "We are saying over the next number of years as parking charges rise – as they will inevitably will do – the rise may not be as steep for electric vehicles as it would be for your standard vehicle."
