Dublin artist dedicates work to famous Father Ted actor Frank Kelly

A Dublin artist has dedicated his recent work to Father Ted actor Frank Kelly.

The artist, who goes by the name Garlic Designs has taken his paint and brushes to the area of Blackrock in South Dublin to pay tribute to Frank Kelly for Dublin Canvas. Frank lived in Blackrock for most of his life. He was educated at Blackrock College and went on to study law at UCD. He tried journalism and worked as a sub editor for years before moving onto acting.

Garlic Designs said: “This piece was a small tribute to actor Frank Kelly who played the infamous character in the Father Ted series. Frank was a local around the Blackrock area where this piece was done and it was amazing to hear such a huge amount of incredible stories and admiration for the man by everyone walking past while I painted.”

Frank starred in Mrs. Brown's Boys D'Movie, Glenroe and Emmerdale, but he will forever be remembered for his hilarious role as Father Jack Hackett in the iconic Channel 4 series that ran from April 1995 to May 1998.

The priest who was permanently placed on a chair in the corner was an old, angry alcoholic who usually shouted “drink, arse and girls”.

He’d occasionally scream "what" and "women's knickers".

On set, people wouldn’t eat lunch with Frank during filming if he was in his Father Jack make-up because the false flaky skin would fall off into their food.
