GAA star Paul Brogan has said he’s recognised more for his time on Dancing With The Stars than winning All-Ireland titles playing for Dublin.
The All-Ireland footballer – who retired from the sport ten years ago in 2012 - was part of the winning 2011 All-Ireland Senior football squad, alongside his well-known older brothers Bernard and Alan Brogan.
Paul now works as an engineer for the ESB and said people know him better for his time on the RTE show than they do on the pitch in Croke Park in the last few weeks.

Asked if customers have been in hysterics when he arrives at their door as an engineer, he said: “The last few weeks, they have been. Yeah I do. Dublin, it’s mad. For an amateur sport with Dublin, it’s just normal people so like you’re in a normal working job. It’s not like soccer players where you can’t get access to them. Everyone can access a Dublin player. Like we’ve normal jobs and we’re normal people.”
Paul became the third celebrity voted off the show on Sunday night after failing to impress audiences with his tango with Salome Chachua.
But he said the show was “all a bit of craic” and he was more shocked to be top of the leaderboard the previous Sunday night.
He said: “It was all a bit of craic. I was shocked to get so high [on the leaderboard last week].” But the 36-year-old felt the judges did score them harder as they came away with just 16 points.
“They probably scored us a little bit harder. The scoring makes a big difference because it puts you down the bottom.”
On Sunday night, judge Loraine Barry criticised Salome’s choreography skills, saying she found the dance too difficult to judge as she mixed an Argentinian tango with a ballroom tango and Loraine wanted to see more ballroom in the dance.
Paul said: “I’m not giving out, but they did tell us we could do an Argentinian tango. If you lift when you shouldn’t be lifting, then they will down score you so….”
But Salome said she was surprised by the judges’ comments over her mixture of Argentinian tango and ballroom tango in her choreography, saying she wouldn’t have mixed the two together if she was told not to.
“Yeah, that’s why I was surprised because you know when we are working and creating choreography everybody knows like you should tell and I won’t do it… but it’s okay.
“It’s OK, this happens. Every single live show we are waiting, somebody has to go out. I’m going to miss Paul of course.”
Paul added: “It is what it is. I thought it was great.”
