Dublin Airport to compensate passengers who missed flights and publish plan for Bank Holiday weekend

The Dublin Airport Authority has confirmed that it will compensate passengers who missed their flights due to long queues at the weekend.

Management will also publish a plan for managing the June Bank Holiday crowds tomorrow.

It comes after around 1,000 passengers missed flights at Dublin Airport on Sunday after long queues stretched outside terminal buildings.

The daa has since apologised for the disruption and offered to compensate those affected.

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan and Minister of State Hildegarde Naughton met with daa CEO Dalton Phillips and senior officials this morning, where they received an update on the airport's plan to manage passenger experience this weekend and into the summer.

The daa advised on their plan to improve queue management, as well as to maximise the availability of staffing resources and increase the number of security lanes at peak times.

It comes as the daa confirmed that passengers who missed their flights due to the long queues can claim any out-of-pocket expenses they subsequently had to pay.

This will include costs incurred in changing flights, such as any overnight accommodation needed if flights were missed, and related taxi or other transport costs to and from hotels.

Affected passengers can make a claim by emailing customerservice@dublinairport.com, with a claims form to come online soon.

A statement issued by the ministers said: "The Ministers received an update from DAA on their plans to manage the passenger experience this weekend and into the summer period.

"DAA advised on their plan to improve queue management; maximise the availability of staffing resources; and increase the number of security lanes at peak times. DAA also updated Ministers on how they intend to compensate passengers who have missed flights.

"The DAA indicated that they are currently finalising operational arrangements. Ministers have asked that DAA clearly communicate their plan, within the next 24 hours, to deliver a satisfactory experience for passengers departing from the airport this bank holiday weekend. Ministers emphasised the importance of restoring passenger confidence in Dublin airport."

"Ministers will continue to engage with DAA on a daily basis," it added.
