Dublin Airport passengers rage over return of 'chaos' and 'shocking' two-hour queues

Dublin Airport passengers have been taking to social media once again as queue times reached two hours over the weekend.

Only a matter of weeks ago the airport was coping with up to three-hour backlogs, but it seemed as if things had been brought under control, until now.

Twitter is alight with angry customers trying to make their flights, and this time it’s the evening flyers that have been affected by the delays.

Among the hundreds of comments online, Dublin Airport is being called out as a “shambles” and even a “total disgrace” as disgruntled passengers brand it the “worst in Europe.”

One person wrote: “Shame on Dublin airport. What the point in me being loyal to your airline when I can’t use fast track as an Aer Club member?”

Another said: “Ridiculous service. Long queues, no information, gates changing all the time and it was so hot inside that I don’t think the AC was on. What a mess!”

A third complained saying “the queues in Dublin are *shocking*. Zero queue management and such massive delays. There are TWO staff members for an entire 787 aircraft.”

In defence of the latest complaints about Dublin Airport, a spokesman told Dublin Live: "The time it is taking to get through security at Dublin Airport stabilised considerably during April and this has continued through the first half of May.

"Last weekend was another busy one for Dublin Airport, but things moved well throughout. In recent weeks, more than 90% of passengers have got through security in less than 30 minutes, with 98% getting through in less than 45 minutes.

"However, while the potential remains for times longer than this, particularly at busy times, we continue to advise passengers to arrive up to two and a half hours before a short-haul flight and three and a half hours before a long-haul flight."

The current advice from Dublin Airport for anyone heading away over the coming days is as follows:

  • allow up to 2.5 hours before a short-haul flight, and up to 3.5 hours before a long-haul flight.
  • If your flight is at 08:30 or after, please do not enter the terminals any earlier than 06.00.
  • Security in T1 is now open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Security in T2 opens at 04.00, so people flying from T2 should factor this in.
  • Airline check-in desk and bag drop opening times vary, so please contact your airline to confirm and plan your journey accordingly.
