The number of noise complaints made to Dublin Airport has increased threefold due to post-Covid passenger number increases and the opening of a new runway.
New figures published by the airport's operator daa show a total of 608 individuals filed a complaint about noise from planes taking off or landing. There were just 174 such complaints made in 2021.
The new North runway, which cost €320 million, was opened in August last year. There was a spike of complaints made in the moth after.

In September, 193 people made a total of 2,457 complaints about noise disturbances from aircrafts taking off or landing. The majority of complaints came from residents of Kinsealy, Portmarnock, Swords, Dunboyne and Malahide and related to flights taking off at night.
The authority said it would reroute departing flight paths to align with the original routes as it previously communicated. The company said a "review with the aim of satisfactorily resolving the issue as soon as possible" at the time.
North Dublin residents previously said that mounting frustrations over Dublin Airport's North Runway could result in a large scale protest.
