Dublin Airport chiefs to triage access to terminals during peak times as new holding area to be created

Dublin Airport Authority is set to establish a new holding area for passengers who show up early as they will start to triage passengers to allow them access to the departure gates.

It comes as Dublin Airport chiefs are set to appear before the Oireachtas Transport Committee with a new plan to manage queues ahead of the the busy summer months.

RTE News shared the latest update as they listed the new changes that will soon be put in place for passengers going through Dublin Airport.

The daa said they are “confident” they have a robust plan to address the concerns and they do not envisage a repeat of last Sunday, when over 1,000 passengers missed their flights.

They shared: “daa plan involves triaging access to the terminals and only allowing departing passengers into the departures level that have flights departing within two and a half hours to short-haul destinations and three and a half for long-haul destinations.

"New daa plan advises passengers due to fly out of Dublin Airport over the coming period, to arrive at the airport at least two and a half hours before the departure of short-haul flights to Europe and the UK and at least three and a half hours for long-haul flights.”

The daa will also ask passengers that arrive too early for their flight to wait in a “passenger holding area” as they give “special consideration” to passengers that will require special assistance and those Important Flyers travelling with autism.

Meanwhile, passengers who are departing from the airport will only be able to access the “the appropriate terminals” after presenting “documentation indicating the time of flight” as control measures are put in place, with documentation needed to confirm this that such as a boarding card.

The daa will also be placing a “bad weather cover, seating and toilets in the holding area”.

Dublin Airport said that this will happen “as quickly as possible in the coming days following triaging of this system over the June Bank Holiday Weekend”.
