Dubai Airport releases travel advisory amid heavy rainfall; Indian consulate issues helpline numbers

Dubai, the city of skyscrapers and glamour, is right now struggling with heavy rainfall and bad weather conditions. Given the current situation, Dubai International Airport (DXB) has issued a travel advisory and has requested people to avoid coming to the airport unless it's absolutely urgent, because of unprecedented weather conditions.

Flights are experiencing long delays and diversions. Passengers have been asked to stay updated on their flight status.

On the other hand, a number of airlines are cancelling their flights. Emirates Airlines has suspended departure procedures for passengers at Dubai from 8:00 AM on Wednesday, April 17th, until midnight on April 18th.

Indian consulate helpline numbers:The Indian consulate in Dubai has issued helpline numbers for Indian nationals affected by the flood-like situation.

Dubai rain situation:

As per the data shared by the national meteorology centre, in less than 24 hours, Al Ain in the UAE experienced record rainfall with 254 mm (10 inches). This city is set on the UAE-Oman border. It is the most since records began in 1949, and the UAE was created in 1971.

Videos of flooded shopping centres in Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates have gone viral on various social media platforms. At one of the metro stations, flood water was ankle deep. Another video doing rounds on social media showed workers removing water from luxurious stores like Chanel and Fendi inside a mall.

Schools were shut and the Dubai government extended work from home for its employees until Wednesday.
