Saturday’s penultimate race of the season featured a series of crashes immediately after the safety car restart, which led to some drivers being taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
The incidents prompted a long red flag period and led to criticism of the double-file restart format. It followed similar criticisms after just 11 cars finished the first Norisring race earlier this year, prompting the organisers to convene an additional drivers' briefing prior to qualifying for race two.
