A grandad broke a police officer's hand and left his finger permanently deformed after an all-day drinking session at the bingo.
John Pirie tried to headbutt the officer whose hand was broken when he moved to block the blow. The drunken fisherman had become "incredibly" hostile and aggressive when police turned up at his North Shields home in order to arrest his son.
The 53-year-old was himself arrested and tried to lash out at the officer. Pirie's head hit with the officer's hand, breaking it and injuring his ring finger. The officer's arm had to be placed in a cast for a month and it was discovered his finger would be left permanently deformed, reports ChronicleLive.
