Drunk man says he 'identifies as a truck' as he tries to get served at McDonald's drive-thru on foot

A man has gone viral on TikTok after trying to get served in a McDonalds drive-thru on foot. Kevin O'Hara was making his way back home from a night out when he felt peckish and decided to visit the fast food restaurant only to find that it was closed to walk-in customers.

After discovering that the drive-thru was still open and with his eyes on a Big Mac he joined the queue with the cars and waited his turn before walking up to the machine and placing his order. However, much to the 32-year-old's disappointment, his request was refused as he was told he had to be in a car to use the drive-thru.

In the two-and-a-half minute clip – which has now been viewed more than 325,000 times – Kevin stumbles over to the speaker at the end of the drive-thru and casually says hello. A member of staff replies: "Excuse me mate, I'm going to have to ask you to get out the drive-thru".

Kevin soldiers on regardless, asking: "Can I get a Big Mac please?" to which the McDonald's employee replies: "Nah, you need a car to come through the drive-thru pal. It's drive-thru only tonight". Keep up to date with the latest viral clips from across TikTok by clicking here.

At this stage no-one would blame Kevin for walking away and abandoning his tequila-fuelled quest for the elusive burger. But, not wanting to take no for an answer, he has an idea to try and convince the McDonald's staff to hand over the goods despite him still being on foot.

"I'm trying to pretend I'm in a car so I can get some food," he says, before making 'vroom vroom' noises as if he was revving an engine. The bemused employee takes it in his stride, replying: "I dinnae accept pretend vehicles sir". He adds: "That's not the point though, it's a health and safety hazard. You're walking round a drive-thru. If you get run over it's then on me."

Despite Kevin's insistence that he wouldn't get hit he was still refused service – but he had another trick up his sleeve. "I'm a f***ing truck," he says. "Are you trying to say I don't identify as a truck? I identify as a truck, so I am a truck."

The staff member replies: "You can identify as whatever you want mate, you're not in a vehicle". A long silence follows while Kevin tries his engine noises again and adds chips to his original order. However the McDonalds crew have stopped replying and after a few more attempts to no avail he sighs and gives up his pursuit.

The video posted by his friend has now gone viral on TikTok, picking up nearly 30,000 likes and leaving viewers in stitches. But despite going home hungry Kevin told the Mirror that he did not regret his antics – although his wife Lisa was left embarrassed by the footage.

"When I was making the car noises I was just thinking: 'How can I convince this guy to give me a Big Mac?'," he said. "I was hungry. I had to convince him I was a truck."

He added: "In this day and age with people saying they're identifying as something they may or may not be I thought: 'If I can tell this guy I'm a truck then maybe he'll serve me'. I was out watching the Tyson Fury fight. Then we went to a nightclub and a client of mine kept buying me tequilas and I don't normally drink that."

Viewers on TikTok found the heroic quest hilarious with hundreds leaving comments on the viral clip. While some praised the McDonald's worker for his patience others felt that Kevin should have been rewarded with the burger and chips he was craving.

"The worker doesn't get paid enough to deal with this," wrote one user with another adding: "He should be done for drunk driving!". A third asked "At this point would it not just be safer and quicker to serve him than convince him to leave?" while another wrote: "Class, got to love him for trying though! I would have served you pal if I was behind that drive through, just for your banter."

Others claimed that they had been successful in doing the same as Kevin. "I get served at my drive-through all the time, I don't own any vehicle," wrote one, with another adding: "I've been served in the drive thru in a mobility scooter". One viewer agreed with Kevin, adding: "I've tried this, waited in the queue and just don't get it. If the restaurant isn't open, why can't we order via the drive-thru?"
