Drunk man held for misbehaving with cop in Noida market

NOIDA: A man has been held for allegedly abusing and misbehaving with several people under the influence of alcohol at the Surajpur vegetable mandi in Greater Noida on late Friday evening.

The accused was caught with help of an off-duty female constable.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Arun Sharma, a resident of Lakhnavali in Greater Noida.

“The incident took place around 9pm. Sharma who had consumed an excessive amount of alcohol was abusing everyone in the market. A female constable of Surajpur police station was buying fruits when she heard him and asked him to stop abusing,” Avdhesh Pratap, SHO of Surajpur police station.

As the constable intervened, he retorted and told her to stay away. However, she engaged him and called the Chowki in charge.

“He fled from the spot when he saw the police vehicle, leaving his motorcycle behind. Our team traced and arrested the man based on the registration number of his motorcycle. The vehicle has been seized," Pratap said.

A case has been registered under Section 151 (whoever knowingly joins or continues in any assembly of five or more persons likely to cause a disturbance of the public peace,) of the Indian Penal Code.
