A man threw a fire extinguisher through the sixth floor window of a hotel onto a busy city centre street during a drunken rampage.
Callum Shepherd also barged his way into another guest’s room before setting a fire alarm off and forcing dozens of guests to stand outside Z Hotel on North John Street for an hour in the rain.
The road was closed, buses were diverted and police and the fire brigade were called in the aftermath of the incident in September last year.

Shepherd, who is from Northumberland, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court this afternoon and pleaded guilty to affray and criminal damage. Prosecutors said the 23 year old had been drinking in the bar of Z Hotel in the early hours of the morning before a member of staff cut him off after deciding he was too drunk.
He then went to return to his room but, after getting in a lift with another guest, then followed barged into her room. The court heard Shepherd then lay on the bed in her room. Prosecutors said that while he did not target the woman further she felt extremely alarmed by his behaviour but eventually managed to get him to leave.
Minutes later, guests were woken by a fire alarm which had been set off by Shepherd and were forced to go outside. While they were standing in the rain waiting for the hotel to be inspected, Shepherd threw a fire extinguisher through a closed window on the sixth floor.
Some people standing below were showered with glass but luckily the extinguisher itself landed on a ledge above the pavement. That was also the case for a second fire extinguisher thrown through the same window by Shepherd moments later.
Police arrived at the scene around 8am and arrested him. Shepherd spoke in court today only to confirm his personal details and plead guilty to affray and criminal damage. An earlier charge of criminal damage recklessly endangering life was withdrawn by prosecutors.
Michael Halliwell, defending, said he accepted the seriousness of the incident meant it would be unlikely that he could be sentenced in the magistrates’ courts, which have limits on the penalties they can hand down.
District Judge James Hatton sent Shepherd’s case to Liverpool Crown Court for sentencing next month and ordered a pre-sentence report from the probation service. Shepherd, of Melling Road, was bailed to appear next month for sentencing.
