A drunk dad left a man with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain after punching him once outside a North Tyneside bar.
Mark Davison and the victim were involved in an altercation near a pub in Tynemouth when the former lashed out with his fist, causing the latter to fall to the ground and hit his head. A court heard that, while the man lay injured on the street, Davison fled but made the mistake of dropping his mobile phone and wallet, which were subsequently used to identify him.
The violence was also captured on CCTV and the married 34-year-old was arrested after he attended a police station voluntarily the next day. Magistrates in Newcastle heard that Davison said to officers at Middle Engine Lane "You may have my phone and wallet".

Davison, of Whitehouse Drive, in Killingworth, is now facing a possible prison sentence after he appeared in the dock to plead guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent. District Judge Paul Currer told him: "You have pleaded guilty and will be given credit for that.
"Before you are sentenced, I want to know a lot more about you, which is why I'm adjourning your case for an all-options, pre-sentence report. That is no indication as to what the sentence will be but also included is committal for sentence if my powers are insufficient."
The court heard that Davison had been out golfing with friends before socialising with them on October 24 2021. However, he had become separated from his pals when he walked out of a bar.
Rob Lawson, prosecuting, said: "The defendant nudged someone as he went out of the door. One of those outside was the complainant. There was an altercation and the defendant struck the complainant, knocking him to the ground.
"The complainant banged his head and it caused a small fracture to the back of his skull and a bleed on the brain. The defendant ran away but his phone and wallet fell out of his pocket."
In a statement, the victim said he had been unable to drive or play rugby for six months and the attack had affected his ambition to join the army.
Mark Harrison, defending, said Davison had lashed out as he felt "threatened" by the victim and his pals, adding: "He did attend the police station the next day and says "You may have my phone and wallet". He's a hard-working, family man with young children. He's incredibly disappointed and ashamed and embarrassed and worried."
Davison was released on unconditional bail to next appear back before the same court on April 14.
