A drunk motorist driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway after crashing his car into the central reservation found himself side by side with a police vehicle going the right way on the other side of the road. A court heard James Brannigan had been trying to get to a casino in Cardiff after a golf function.
Brannigan, 42, was more than twice the legal drink drive limit when he crashed his Mitsubishi Outlander on the A4232 Ely Link Road at 2.55am on October 8. He had missed his turn for Leckwith and collided with the central reservation.
Brannigan performed a dangerous manoeuvre by turning his car round and driving the wrong way up the dual carriageway and was at one point side by with a police vehicle travelling the correct way on the other carriageway. The drunk took a turn off a slip road before stopping his vehicle at a Lidl car park.
