Drunk cyclist knocks nurse unconscious outside Alder Hey

A drunk cyclist knocked a nurse unconscious outside Alder Hey Children's Hospital.

The incident happened on Tuesday, March 15, on East Prescot Road in West Derby where Edward Ratchford was riding on the pavement drunk. Ratchford of Mab Lane in West Derby pleaded guilty for common assault, drunk in charge of a pedal cycle and dangerous cycling.

The 47-year-old was sentenced at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 21. He was ordered to pay the victim £200 compensation, carry out a community ordered and electronically tagged.

In a statement on Twitter, the road policing unit for Merseyside Police said: "Edward Ratchford, 47, the pedal cyclist who knocked a nurse unconscious outside of Alder Hey after riding on the pavement while drunk was convicted of common assault, drunk in charge and dangerous cycling. He was ordered to pay the victim £200 and electronically tagged."
