Drugs worth €1.1 million found in joint operation targeting Kildare crime gang

A man in his 40s is being held by gardai tonight after drugs worth €1.1 million were found in Co Kildare.

The joint operation earlier today by gardai and Revenue led to the seizure of 55kg of herbal cannabis. It was a result of an ongoing investigation and the raid was intelligence led.

It was targeting people who are suspected of being involved in a drug gang operating in the Kildare area. The man, 43, is being held in a station in the county under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A Revenue spokesman said: "Investigations are ongoing. This operation was part of Revenue’s ongoing joint investigations targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs. If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding drug smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on phone number 1800 295 295."
