Drug cheat Jarrell Miller secures stoppage victory as boxing comeback continues

Drug cheat Jarrell Miller continued his boxing comeback with a second stoppage victory in the US.

Miller had not entered the ring since his victory over Bogdan Dinu back in 2018, and was set to face British heavyweight Anthony Joshua in a title challenge the following year. However he was banned from lacing up his gloves after testing positive for multiple banned substances, which saw Andy Ruiz Jr step in at late notice.

The 34-year-old made a comeback against Ariel Bracamonte in an ironic 'No Drugs' event in Argentina where he laboured to unanimous decision victory. Exactly one month after his ring return, Miller made his latest appearance in the ring where he came back to home soil and fought Derek Cardenas in Nashville.

Miller started the fight slowly sitting behind the jab and making his rival try to move but was unable to offer anything to test the undefeated American. Cardenas came into the fight in the second stanza with a short left hook breathing new life into Miller, who decided to try and land some dynamite of his own.

He backed his rival on to the ropes on multiple occasions and tried to work upstairs and downstairs with some whipping hooks. The fight sparked into life in the third round with Miller caught with a thudding overhand right which saw his rival whip the crowd into action.

However his success was short lived with Miller able to land a neat right hand before a thumping body shot saw his opponent quickly drop to one knee and the referee awarded the first knockdown. Another one quickly followed at the start of the fourth and final period, where Cardenas was dropped by a vicious uppercut.

Despite rising to his feet briefly again, it was the beginning of the end for Cadenas, with Miller's thudding shots continuing. A third knockdown prompted the referee to halt the contest having seen enough, and awarding 'Big Baby' with his latest victory. Miller signalled after the fight that he would like to enter the ring again within the next three weeks, to keep up his plan of fighting every month this year.

Many are opposed to Miller's return in the sport after he tested positive for multiple banned substances, but he has since been working with a host of high-profile names for his return including Tyson Fury. Miller plans to return to the summit of the division and would be willing to challenge the 'Gypsy King' in the future.

"Jarrell has been out of the ring for close to four years. Training with the best heavyweight in the world goes to show where Jarrell's mind is at," Boxing promoter Dmitry Salita told Vegas Insider. "He wants to fight the best. It's not unusual for fighters to spar - and a little further down the line fight each other - so the fact that Jarrell's training with Tyson Fury would not impede a match-up in the future."
