Drue Hackenberg, the younger brother of former Jets quarterback Christian Hackenberg, heard his name get called during the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft on Sunday. Hackenberg, a right-handed pitcher, was the No. 59 overall pick by the Atlanta Braves out of Virginia Tech.
Christian Hackenberg obviously did not have the success he and Jets fans were hoping for when he was taken 50th overall in the 2016 draft out of Penn State. He lasted just two years in New York before being traded to the Raiders in 2018.
Drue Hackenberg was the No. 200 prospect on the MLB Top 250 list. He went 5-8 with a 5.70 ERA in 2023 for the Hokies but did go 10-2 with a 3.30 ERA in 2022.
With the 59th pick, the @Braves select @HokiesBaseball right-handed pitcher Drue Hackenberg, No. 200 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.
