Motorists have been urged not to use credit cards or boiling water to de-ice their windshields as the UK's cold snap worsens this week.
Snow and sleet began falling in some parts of the country on Wednesday (March 8), with more wintry weather on the way. The unusual conditions have been attributed to an Arctic blast and a number of national severe weather warnings for snow and ice have been issued by the Met Office.
Sam Sheehan, motoring expert at online car dealership Cinch warned that some driving hacks that are popular during cold weather don't work - or, worse, they could damage your car. Sam explained: “Pouring boiling water on a frosted windscreen may cause cracks in the glass, while using a CD or credit card to clear your windscreen could scratch the surface or damage the seals around your windows.
