Drivers warned not to switch off emergency siren in car - you could receive hefty fine

As the government have revealed plans to test its new UK Emergency Alert Service nationwide later in April, motorists have been warned not to switch the alert of whilst driving - otherwise, they may face a hefty fine.

The emergency alert, which is 'siren-like', is designed to warn citizens of nearby life-threatening emergencies, such as flooding, fires, or extreme weather.

At 3pm on Sunday April 23, mobile phone masts across the UK will broadcast the alert to all compatible mobile phones within range - even if they're on silent mode.
