Drivers are being urged to avoid the Woodhead Pass as smoke from a nearby moor fire blows across the road. A helicopter is being used to dump water on the blaze near the hamlet of Crowden.
The fire is affecting an area of moorland about 1km square. Firefighters are having to walk an hour in full kit to get to the remote site.

Around 30 firefighters from Derbyshire, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire are at the scene. They are being assisted by Peak District rangers and United Utilities staff.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "Six fire engines from #TeamDFRS supported by @WYRS @manchesterfire @peakdistrict rangers, @RSPBEngland & @unitedutilities continue to deal with a moorland fire at Crowden.
"Smoke from the fire is affecting #woodheadpass - please avoid the area if you can! The fire is affecting an area of moorland approximately 1km square! Firefighters who have to walk for an hour to reach the fire wearing fire kit, are being supported by a helicopter carrying water!
"Show your support for all the firefighters across the UK, who along with our control operators and support employees are doing an excellent job to deal with this increase in demand for our services. Please help us and please take extra care to prevent fires and other emergencies. Let’s all Stay safe during the #heatwave."
National Highways tweeted: "Please be aware of smoke from an off network moorland fire on the #A628 in both directions near C rowden in Derbyshire if travelling in the area. Fire service are in attendance and dealing. There are currently no closures or significant delays but please drive with caution."
Crews are also still battling a huge wildfire at Win Hill near Lady Bower reservoir in the Peak District, which broke out on Tuesday. A portable barbecue and camp stove were later found at the scene.
The same United Utilities helicopter is being used at both fires.
