Drivers stuck in eight mile tailbacks on M6 after caravan bursts into flames

Drivers are stuck in huge queues on the M6 after a caravan burst into flames.

Lanes one and two are currently closed on the motorway southbound between Junction 19 for Knutsford and J18 for Holmes Chapel after the fire caused damaged to the carriageway. Emergency resurfacing is being carried out following the blaze which broke out shortly after midnight on Wednesday, June 1.

People are being asked to allow extra time for their journeys this afternoon due to long delays of 50 minutes above average.

National Highways tweeted: Lanes 1 and 2 (of 4) are now closed on the #M6 southbound between J19 #TableyInterchange #Knutsford and J18 #Middlewich #HolmesChapel. Closures are in place to carry out emergency resurfacing following a vehicle fire which has damaged the carriageway.
