Drivers 'sick' of state of A761 as Renfrewshire councillor lambasts potholes and white lines

Drivers are “sick and tired” of the state of a busy Renfrewshire road – sparking renewed complaints from an exasperated politician.

Councillor James MacLaren berated the condition of the A761 Brookfield to Bridge of Weir road, which he has raised concerns about for a number of years.

The Conservative lamented potholes and a lack of “well-painted” white lines on the stretch, while problems surrounding the cat’s eyes have also been a source of worry for his constituents.

One resident told the Bridge of Weir rep that friends in Glasgow would no longer visit the village for a meal because they are fearful of the road.

Councillor MacLaren said: “The A761 is a key road in my ward but it is currently in a terrible state. There are potholes all over the road and well-painted white lines are few and far between.”

He said the road has been “neglected for far too long” by the local authority and that it was a “real risk” for the drivers who need to use it.

Councillor MacLaren added: “I have been urging Renfrewshire Council to outline as to when works will be carried out to drastically improve the condition of the A761.

“My constituents are sick and tired of how poor this road is to use.”

The council said a “significant” lining and resurfacing programme was carried out towards the end of last year.

It also confirmed plans to tackle issues surrounding the markings and other safety measures on the road.

“We’re committed to providing a safe road network in Renfrewshire,” a spokesperson said.

“We are currently in the final year of a record £40million investment in our roads and pavements, with our 2023/24 budget committing a total of £6.7 million for the year ahead.

“A significant lining and resurfacing programme took place on the A761 Brookfield to Bridge of Weir road in late 2022 and we are working with our contractor to address some issues with road markings and cat’s eyes, and aim to have these resolved soon.

“We will continue to monitor the roads surface as part of our regular inspection programme and any repairs required will be carried out.”
