Drivers could save hundreds on EV insurance with new salary sacrifice scheme

Jay Pewar has saved on insurance with Octopus EV and loves his Cupra Tavascan - (Jay Pewar)

Electric cars are already cheaper to run for many drivers, but Octopus Electric Vehicles reckons it has found another way to cut the cost of making the switch: paying for the insurance through salary sacrifice, as well as the car.

Salary sacrifice lets an employee give up part of their gross salary in exchange for a benefit, in this case an electric car. Because the payment comes out before income tax and National Insurance, it can make a new EV cheaper than a conventional lease or finance deal.
