Motorists caught out with unfit tyres may be hit with eye-watering fines up to £10,000 as research shows one in ten drivers are on the road with an unsafe set.
When it comes to basic car maintenance, one in three drivers don't feel comfortable or don't know how to carry it out, a study by insurance comparison website Compare the Market has found.
This included important tasks like checking and changing oil, replacing windscreen wipers, and making sure tyres have the required tread depth. Tyre maintenance is particularly important as worn tyres can compromise your road safety and others.
